THE joint venture between the Free State and Northern Cape provinces in the Oudtshoorn Youth Event 2013 edition produced a new cycling star in the mould of Eddie Le Roux.

A total of 32 riders departed last week for the annual three-day youth cycling event in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape to compete with cyclists from the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces. Challenged by his 18th place finish last year, 18-year-old Le Roux, from Fichardtpark High School in Bloemfontein, sprang up a surprise performance to emerge number one this time round.
“My love for cycling started in the Oudtshoorn race last year and I decided to take cycling seriously,” Le Roux told the Free State Times this week.

“I have been pushing myself to the limit during the past year.
“From being an amateur to a champion has made me feel good and now I have confidence in all that I do after coming out number one.”
